Earrings for Thania
Earrings for Thania were commissioned by Thania's sister Tasha, as a gift for her older sister on the occasion of her wedding.
Tasha was interested in the look of a single pearl wrapped in metal. She showed me some images including that of her own earrings received from her grandmother, which had a single pearl held in a claw shaped setting, and told me that her sister likes this piece as well. I designed the piece for Thania by taking the reverse contour of the claws of Tasha's earrings, which came to resemble flower petals.
7mm Akoya pearls were sourced from Mie prefecture, Japan.
The chains were later made as additions to the earrings, using the off-cuts created in between the curved lines of the petal-like shapes cut for the earrings. They can be looped through the studs for a confetti-like sparkle, and were inspired by the celebratory occasion for which this piece was made.
