Wedding Ring for Aude
I knew Aude was great at singing 80’s J-Pop, but when I discovered that she was so fluent that we could discuss ideas in Japanese, I was delighted and thought of communicating design ideas using a unique linguistic element in Japanese language called gitaigo. In Japanese, we can describe an action or a state of being in a similar way to how we might describe sound using onomatopoeia. As Aude was after a playful ring, I incorporated a few different elements and described them as ‘neji-neji’ (being twisted), ‘kaku-kaku’ (having multiple straight sides), ‘pika-pika’ (being shiny) etc. Aude replied describing the design ‘waku-waku’ (being exciting), and I was very happy that we could connect through our mutual interest in language.
